Subscriptions and recurring payments?

How fair is that? Make you pay for paypal integration on a FREE component? Is that even within the CB terms? Go make your own integrated module out of the free CB component and make money off it?

*sigh*

I'm not paying 90.00 for paypal integration. That's WAY too much. 25-40 maybe. No more than that. I'd prefer to make subscribe now buttons freely available on the Paypal.com site first.

A usable hack to allow cb and this new account expiration component would be nice. Preferrably free. But I'd be willing to pay toward a speedy outcome. NOT 90.00 USD. That's disgustingly overpriced!

I see this a bit differently. If you consider the amount of development time you need to devote to get a component like that, you you would need to pay way more. To put it differently: many developers code for their own need. For example if I could have bought the plugins I published no this site for let's say 100$each, I would have done that because that would leave the company I work for financially better off. So there is no point in developing a components that already exists professionally.

Also, If I had a site that generates money for me, I would not like to rely on a billing component that does not have any warranty or support like components developed as a hobby.

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with that component

I agree, if this module/component works really well and support is ok, I think it's worth it.

I rather pay a bit more and have a decent component especially if it's for payment (use in commercial sites)

But of course everyone is free to build his own component, but since I'm having very little time lately I try to look for affordable good components (even if it is for personal use)

the key phrase is paypal integration. There are many, many free scripts out there that already do this. Surely to add it to a mambo/joomla component (one that is free at that already) is not difficult, nor time consuming. The work has essentially already been done.

$100 for paypal integration is not 'affordable' in this case. It looks pretty darn greedy to me. What I really resent is that I will likely be forced to pay that amount simply because there is nothing else out there that is stable (yet).

No doubt about this. I just, as a developer, wanted describe the lack of motivation for making this kind of component (for free).

Wow, no disrespect intended, but that just floors me. You're not "forced" to pay anything, and you could always roll your own if you feel that it's "not difficult or time consuming".

I just find it incredible that people expect professional developers to put in hours and weeks of their time, and then complain when they want to be compensated for it. It's great that lots of joomla developers do stuff for free, but it's unfair to criticize those who are trying to do it full time or create a commercial component like Phil Taylor and others. If it really bothers you, just pretend it doesn't exist and wait for a free solution. Personally, I'm happy that their are commercial options available.

Also, it looks like they have an "instal it yourself" version for $45 or so. I believe the $99 "greedy" version is with installation services.

I am not a developer nor affilaited with JoomlaPal, but I'll gladly pay for it if it's useful, considering that we are talking about a component that allows the site owner to make money by collecting $$ for memberships.

Cheers,

TC
