Same Question Here - private folders/protected folders

Is there a known solution for protecting a folder ( /images/stories/<private_folder> ) so that only CB registered users can access the linked contents?

The files are stored here by the Admin and we only want them viewable/downloadable by authorized members.

One way to protect direct access to the files within a directory is to:
1) have an index.html file in the directory (to prevent directory listing)
2) prefix the other file names with some random characters
3) Have a script fetch the files, or build urls as needed (since the users won't know what the prefix is).
4) The script in point 3 should be able to recognise whether the user is authorized to get or view the files or not.
