Thanks for the reply Nant. I am using CB 1.1 and I had tried moving the fields up and down through the field management, but unfortunately I found that this works only for the customizable fields. I couldn't find the Name/Username/Password fields there to move 
May be I am not on the right track, can you pls guide?

these specific fields cannot be separated - they must be moved as a block (contact info tab).
you can place other tabbed grouped fields before or after this block using the new registration ordering field in the tab management backend.
