I really recommend that you make this as a plugin. Even if it was only for your specific needs, others can use it as a template to make their own solutions.

It would certainly make sense as a CB plugin, since it'd depend on at least a couple new user fields to control template selection.

Just have to concentrate on getting this XSPF plugin out first, but I'm thinking that it'd be neat to wrap the standard Joomla template chooser and a new selector for the CB templates as a plugin, with backend parameters to use one or either.

Here's a Prototype/PHP-based CSS switcher that might be a decent starting point, notwithstanding any conflicts that could arise with other AJAX-enabled extensions:

A lot of things are much faster to do as hard coded than making them parametrized. I quess that must be the reason.
