It's finally here!

Many thanks to the whole team and in particular to Kyle (krileon) for replying to support forums, and providing many fix proposals. Also many thanks to the active members of the CB Workgroups and to Nick (nant) that have tested beta and RC releases thoroughly.

Community Builder 1.8 raises the stability bar near perfection thanks to their relentless work on testing, searching for issues, and proposing fixes. We are now officially supporting 6 different CMS releases with a single codebase, and a single API for all CB Plugins, making them work on all releases where CB works.

Here the details of the Changelog (compared to Community Builder 1.7.1) with 17 new features and 58 bugfixes.

Community Builder 1.8 is a highly recommended upgrade for all Community Builder releases (and in all cases before migrating your Joomla 1.5.x site to Joomla 2.5.1+ e.g. using jUpgrade + some manual work...).

There is no downside, if you were running CB 1.7.1 or earlier on Joomla 2.5, you can simply upgrade CB to CB 1.8 to enjoy the groups, permissions and Viewing Access Levels of Joomla 2.5 fully in CB. CB 1.7.1 was running ok as long as you had default Joomla groups, or simple cases adding groups in the tree below Registered group.

However, if you were using e.g. CB 1.4 on Joomla 1.5, and want to migrate to 2.5, you should upgrade to CB 1.8 before the migration (jUpgrade is the Joomla-recommended method for that, and latest version supports upgrading CB 1.8 and all latest plugins). CB 1.4 will not run on Joomla 2.5, so upgrading CB first is better.

Thanks for noticing and asking: I will remove the "in all cases" from my statement above, and replace it by 1.5-migration case).
