Looks like the config file has to be in its default installation location.

I had the same problem, then put the config folder back to the normal location and the image came back.

No moving it to the root folder of the server. Maybe in RC5 it will be allowed?

I figured this out on my server. After reading all the posts, and making sure I had configured it correctly according to this post, I looked at my error logs and found an error concerning permissions. My server is configure to not let php scripts run if there is group write permission on the contain dir. So I changed the /Component dir to 755. I had changed it to 775 because I thought that might be causing the image captcha problem. Once I change perms to 755, captcha image displayed correctly

I am having same problem with cb captcha 2.2 RC4.
I am on Joomla 1.0.14. I upgraded CB to 1.2 Stable. I installed cb captcha plugin and published. It shows up on registration form, cb contact page, and on plugin admin screen, but the image is missing in all cases.

Plugin says I have required software:
GD: bundled (2.0.34 compatible)
Freetype: enabled

I have NOT moved default location of configuration.php.

Any ideas how I can make this work?

I have the same trouble
I use joomla 1.5.10
cb 1.2 RC 4
I have installed [1]captcha and after CB Captcha 2.2 RC4 valid for documentation subscription.
I have gd2 enable
FreeType Support: Enabled
FreeType Linkage: with freetype

And in cb login form the captcha doesn't display!!!

I have replaced the cb 1.2 RC4 and I have now the 1.2 version.
The upgrade (downgrade) is not very easy but it fine now on the my computer ( localhost), i can see the captcha.
I must do this on the ovh server and , and I 'm not so
reassured !!!

I try to copy configuration.php in administratot ---cb and cb captcha folder, in an other local site it doesn't work.
