Hello,
I am helping someone to manage several Joomla websites that use Community Builder and related extensions (e.g. CB Content Bot, CB Activity, CB Gallery, etc). To keep track of available updates across all these sites, I use a monitoring tool that reads each extension's manifest for a registered Joomla update site (the <updateservers> block with a feed URL), the same mechanism Joomla itself uses under System → Manage → Update.
As far as I can tell, Community Builder and its plugins (including the CB Package Installer system) don't currently register an update-feed URL in their manifests, so Joomla has no way of knowing automatically when a new version is available - not through its own "Check for Updates" screen, and not through third-party monitoring tools like mine.
Would it be possible to add a standard <updateservers> entry (pointing to an update XML feed on your own infrastructure) to your extension manifests, the same way many other Joomla extension developers already do? This would let Joomla's native update mechanism - and any tool built on top of it - detect new Community Builder releases automatically, without changing how you distribute or license your downloads.
I understand there may be good reasons (licensing, download tracking, support flow) why this isn't already in place, so no worries at all if it's not something you want to add. I just wanted to raise it as a suggestion, since it would make life easier for anyone managing multiple CB-powered sites.
Thank you for considering it, and for your continued work on Community Builder.
Kind regards,
Wouter
