[SOLVED] CB Subs K2 Category Content Support

10 years 9 months ago - 10 years 9 months ago #230917 by allenjj
I am setting up my subscriptions plans on a joomla 3.1 site where I have installed Community Builder, CB Subs, Kunena as the forum manager and K2 as the content manager. It appears that CB Subs will integrate and manage subscription read access to the native joomla CMS content categories, but is there a way to instead have it use the K2 categories? K2 provides greater authoring support so I would really like to use it instead of the native joomla content manager if I can. Or since I want to use the read more limitations to entice users to subscribe, should I use the native joomla CMS categories and then add in other modules to get the additional author features I want? It appears from other support posts that my only option would be to use URLs and the maintenance of those would be an additional burden. I am using the K2 module for the creation and maintenance of a library of support articles. Are there other extensions that would give me some of the K2 features in CB for such a function?

No it does not have built in K2 read access support like it does for Joomla content. However you can use By URL Part protection to protect the URL to an article, articles, or a category. The By URL Part protection is provided by the CBSubs Content integration and can be found on Integrations > Extensions tabs of your plans. Example as follows to protect a K2 article and/or category.

Category:
option=com_k2&view=itemlist&task=category&id=CATEGORY_ID_HERE

All Categories:
option=com_k2&view=itemlist&task=category

Article:
option=com_k2&view=item&id=ARTICLE_ID_HERE

All Articles:
option=com_k2&view=item

Does it seem reasonable if I set in the K2 advance settings a custom prefix for item URLs to something like paid_item, and then set a URL limit in CBSubs on that prefix? I dont want to have to manually create a limit on each item since I am hoping new items will be created all the time. I want all users to be able to see the category listings along with the intro text, but to only be able to get the complete articles with a paid subscription.

After re-reading your post would I simply use the last argument (option=com_k2&view=item) to protect all articles as the url protection if I created a free lifetime (public guest) subscription option? It so, would all users still have access to the categories and intro text for articles?

Yes.

would all users still have access to the categories and intro text for articles?

Yes, as it's only protecting the direct URL to the article. So category view with intro text displayed will work fine and be unprotected.

AWESOME!!!! Im going to then create a lifetime free subscription for public guest access and just set that as the argument in the integration rules for K2. Even though you say its not integrated, the same functioning can be set a different way. This is the best extension and support around. If I can ever offer my support to the joomlapolis team I am happy to do so. Compared to other extension providers, your customer service is exceptional!!!
Thanks,
John
