You'll need to have a mailer that's configured to send before the expiration date while its state is still active. The below for example should work.
Automatically send message at following date: 1 month before
Relative to this date of the plans below: Subscription's Expiry Date
Must be in state: Active
But do not send message if it's later than: 1 day after
You still need to setup CRON to expire subscriptions and process your mailers or you'll have to continue using the URLs manually daily basically.
