CB Subs integration email expiration timing

4 years 7 months ago #313428 by activha
Hello

We use CBSubs email integration and have noticed that we received email for expiration even for customer renewing their subscription automatically with STRIPE SEPA

Usually STRIPE SEPA takes between 2 to 7 days to complete with automatic renewal feature of CBSubs. During this time it seems like the auto recurring basket is not marked as pending, and then the expiration email is fired.

We use this integration to email our support staff and accounting about this and so we often receive false positive as the payment can be marked as completed a few days later.

Do you have an idea to cope with this ?

Mailer is not an option because we cannot define the adresses to send the email to

Thanks

CBSubs can't know how long a payment processor may take to send the renewal IPN. All it knows is the expiration date has been reached so it triggers expiration. For cases like this it's recommended that you configure a Grace Period for your plans. In your case you may want to set that to at least a week. This ensures their subscription won't actually expire before the IPN arrives to renew. Yes this does mean they technically get a week of free subscription time, but realistically it's the only way to give time for the payment processor to handle the payment.

We DO have grace periods on all plans which go up to 1 month.

But it seems that the expiration email is triggered at the expiration date set and not after the grace period. Mind to check ?

The expiration email should only trigger when their subscription has truly expired. Does it do this for the expiration email under the Presentation tab? Could be an issue specific to CBSubs Emails, but would be unlikely since it's acting strictly on subscription state change. It's also possible Stripe it self is expiring the subscription via webhook, which you should be able to check for an unsubscribe notification in CBSubs > Notifications.

Does it do this for the expiration email under the Presentation tab?

No we don't use expiration email under the presentation tab. Seems to be specific to CBSubs Emails integration

It's also possible Stripe it self is expiring the subscription via webhook, which you should be able to check for an unsubscribe notification in CBSubs > Notifications.

No we don't have unsubscribe notifications for Stripe.
It may look as if the basket would not go back to pending state when auto recurring is triggered and STRIPE takes a few days to complete the SEPA payments.

The basket won't go back to a pending status. Is the status of the basket changing when the renewal comes through? It's not supposed to change and should remain as completed with a note of the renewal. If it's changing to cancelled, unsubscribed, etc.. then that could be why the expiration email is triggering. CBSubs Emails just acts on subscription status changes. Specifically on the onCPayUserStateChange trigger. Comparing the Presentation tab email conditions against CBSubs Emails there's a slight difference for the expiration email check, but that still shouldn't be triggering unless their subscription status has been changed to X (expired).
