USE CASE: I have set up a member plan in CBSubs to automatically add people to a GJ group, and wanted to know if the Group Type has any bearing on this working properly.   For example, if the group is Approval or Private, will the automation work?   Also, if the group is unpublished, will the above setting work?

I was also looking at the Group Primer document that only mentions 3 types, but has since included new types.   How do the others work?     Below is a copy of what I pulled from the PDF:

Group Types:
OPEN: Visible to everyone, and anyone can join.
APPROVAL: Visible to everyone, and anyone can request to join, but the join request needs to be approved by a group authorized user (moderator, administrator, owner)
INVITE: Only visible to group members. New members can only be added by invitations sent by existing members.

Thanks!

The auto action will bypass group type entirely and force them into the group with whatever group status you selected for the "Status" parameter. Note groups can only have 1 owner so for your usecase I suggest setting that to "Member" to make them an active member of the group.

Also, if the group is unpublished, will the above setting work?

Yes it will work for unpublished groups.

I was also looking at the Group Primer document that only mentions 3 types, but has since included new types. How do the others work? Below is a copy of what I pulled from the PDF:

Pages do not have user management so for those group types it will create the group user row in the database, but page groups have no user management so it doesn't really do anything.

Hi Kyle,  Sorry, I am not sure I follow when you mention:

Note groups can only have 1 owner so for your usecase I suggest setting that to "Member" to make them an active member of the group.

Where would I configure this?

Just so you know, the setting where I set up the member being added as a member of the group was here: I was referring to was in the Plan>Integrations>GroupJive. (Hopefully that's all I needed to do)

Thanks for clarifying what the Page type is.   For Private, how is it different from Approval or Invite?

I noticed, when I set the group to private, it's still visible, but people can't interact with it.   And if it's private, how do people get added to it (from admins/backend or would I need to enable the "Invite" feature for existing members?)

Ah, ok then you don't need to worry about selecting status. They'll be placed in the group as active members.

Group types are described as follows on frontend of group edit.

Open: All users can see this group, its content, and join it.
Invite: All users can see this group and its content, but must be invited to join it.
Approval: All users can see this group and its content, but require approval to join it.
Private: This group is only visible to users if they have already joined it or have been invited to join it.
Page: All users can see this group and its content, but no users can join it.

I noticed, when I set the group to private, it's still visible, but people can't interact with it. And if it's private, how do people get added to it (from admins/backend or would I need to enable the "Invite" feature for existing members?)

Private is only visible if you're a member of it or you're a CB Moderator as moderators of course have full access in order to moderate.

Thanks, and to be sure, the ability to add people to groups this way (via plan integration), no matter which type of group it is, and even if it's disabled?

Also, other than enabling the "Invites" Tab,  can Admin add people to groups on the backend?

The thinking behind this is:
1. Not wanting members in the group to allow members to the group (admin only) OR
2. Approving members by admin if members invite people (This, I am not sure, is possible, unless the group is of Approval Type)

Correct.

Yes, within CB > User Management you should see a "Add CB GroupJive Groups" button. Select the users you want to add to groups then click that.

2. Approving members by admin if members invite people (This, I am not sure, is possible, unless the group is of Approval Type)

That would require the group type to be Approval, but yes that's doable.
