User lists are really important.
I also looked for a way to hide/show the selectbox at all, and even better per list! Unfortunately there are no options. Please, could you take it to the feature request list?

Userlists and the search feature in general are being completely re-written for CB 2.0. Many improvements to come!

Does it mean, improvements are unlikely to appear in versions 1.7++ ?

Beyond bug fixes? Absolutely. We're doing no major features in a 1.x release. Very little features will be added between now and 2.x release at this time as we're primarily doing bug fixes. Our goal is to release 2.x by end of this year (this is not a release date.. it's just our goal we're trying to achieve), which is approaching very quickly.
