What is the correct method to turning off (or disabling) the Groups and Category "By Username" feature? I prefer not to have authors or group owners usernames shown here.

You'll need to edit the template and remove it. GJ template files can be found at the below location.

components/com_comprofiler/plugin/user/plug_cbgroupjive/templates/
