edit profile page & module placement

Hello. I have a number of modules on the side of my profile pages (not positioned in the user profile, but outside of the profile area). I am trying to make it so that when a user clicks on the "edit profile" tab of the cb menu located within a users profile, those modules disappear and the entire page can be used to edit.
I tried to create a "hidden" menu item that links to the cb edit menu and alter the modules on that menu item (similar to how you do it for an article category)but it had no effect. If I add a menu item out side of the cb menu, it works fine.
If its not possible to create different module settings for the "edit tab", is it possible to remove the "edit tab" from the cb menu?

CB uses the same Itemid throughout so that likely won't work unless you directly navigated to profile edit using a Joomla menu link. I suppose you could remove the link using CSS as it's hardcoded into CB Menu.
