Changing Field Types

Hi.
Just would like to ask - would there be any implications or data loss if I were to change a field that captures email to a text field?

Scenario is this -
There is an secondary email field created to store alternative email address as secondary contact.
But after importing the users, some of them have more than 2 alternative email.

Since the users are already in the system, would there be any major data loss or corruption if I update the field type from Email to Text Field instead??

An email field to a text field shouldn't have any data loss as they're the same database column type (text). However, please backup before doing so.
