They don't display anywhere but in the CB Login module (Linking and Sign Up are both done from login module). If you want them in profile edit you'll have to add the HTML for that in a Custom HTML field. Could be useful to have the Link buttons show in profile edit though and have added a feature ticket for it.

Works for me:

In getField @ line 190 of `components/com_comprofiler/plugin/user/plug_cbconnect/cbconnect.php`:
} elseif (!$value && ($user->get('id') == Application::MyUser()->get('id'))) {
                        $values = array();
                        global $_CB_framework;
                        $return = null;
                        $connect = new Connect($connect->id);
                        $return .= $connect->button(1);
                        if ($return) {
                            static $CSS = 0;
                            if (!$CSS++) {
                                $_CB_framework->document->addHeadStyleSheet($_CB_framework->getCfg('live_site') . '/components/com_comprofiler/plugin/user/plug_cbconnect/css/cbconnect.css');
                            }
                            $return = '<div class="content-spacer text-center cb_template cb_template_' . selectTemplate('dir') . ' cbConnectButtons">'
                                . $return
                                . '</div>';
                        }
                    }

YMMV

Do not modify core code. You will lose your changes on update of CB Connect. If we do install reviews we will update your install so please keep this in mind. You can output the buttons to profile edit using a Custom HTML field with a link to the below URLs for example.

Facebook:
index.php?option=com_comprofiler&view=pluginclass&plugin=cbconnect&provider=facebook

Google:
index.php?option=com_comprofiler&view=pluginclass&plugin=cbconnect&provider=google
