Username shows as "Visible on Profile", but is hidden

I have a small problem with names in CB. I have set up the name (Name name) to be visible on the user profile, but the username (Name username) hidden, using the field options as standard. However, when a user goes to edit their profile, the icon and tooltips are showing the username as visible on their profile, despite the fact that this is not the case.
I am also a little unclear as to the function of the formatted name, and how I should use it if at all, when there are so many other name options available.

Username is used by other plugins, Joomla extensions, etc.. it can't be guaranteed to not be public. It's also used in SEF URLs so it basically is always visible somewhere at some point. You can disable that icon though by overriding its icon display under the username fields layout parameters.
