default value in single select dropdown was created by carin

In a single select dropdown I tried to set the Placeholder value to "choose your type" but the first option is always empty. I also tried the "Default Registration Value", still empty.

There is no placeholder parameter for single select dropdowns. To supply a blank value label you simply set the first option to have no value and supply your label under label. See the below blog on how to utilize the new select fieldtype features.
