Issue with Forcing a Specific Layout in CB Blog

3 days 22 hours ago #342171 by Proficookware
Hello,

I am using CB Blog (Joomla mode) and trying to use the “Category List” layout to display a list of all articles in a category. However, this does not seem to work, and the system always defaults to com-content-category-blog blog. Layout blog.

Do you have any suggestions on how to force CB Blog to use the “Category List” layout? Even better, is there a way to use a custom layout, similar to the method described here .
Thank you.

You mean when clicking an article in the blog tab it's going to the wrong menu item? We use Joomla's API to construct the URLs and does appear there's a $layout variable we can pass. Will add a feature ticket and try to get this released today to let you specify what layout in CB Blogs configuration.

Have reviewed the $layout usage and it won't have any real impact on articles themselves. So are you meaning the category link and not the article link? For that you should be able to just create a Joomla menu item to that category and set its layout there. That is currently working in my tests. So I don't think we need to do any modifications here beyond making some menu items.

Yes, I mean the link to the article category in Joomla, specifically the default layout (Category List). I always get the blog (Category Blog) layout instead.
See attached

You'll need to make a Joomla menu item to your category with the layout you're wanting. That behavior is entirely handled by Joomla. If you have 2 menu items to the same category it'll use whichever it finds first.

I’m sorry and thank you for pointing this out. You are absolutely right.

It’s not enough to select the newly created layout only in the menu item. The layout also has to be selected in the category settings (under Options > Layout). Otherwise, Joomla will continue to use the default layout, and the override won’t work as expected.

E.g. Create your custom layout override.
When creating or editing a Menu Item (e.g. Category List, Category Blog), choose the new layout.
Additionally, go to the Category settings of the relevant category.
Open the Options tab.
Under Layout, select the same custom layout.
Save the category.

I apologize again for the earlier misunderstanding, and I appreciate your patience.
