Ok, I believe I understand the issue. Backend album selection is owner specific. I need to improve the backend album input to handle the non-profile based gallery album selection.

Ok, a new CB Gallery build release is now available with backend album selection fixed. You should see the groups albums now in the dropdown regardless of album owner. It'll only restrict album selection if it's a profile gallery.
