Hi,
Has anyone else had issues where the use of emoticons has crashed messages between users?
Does anyone know how to resolve the issue?
David

Emoticons has crashed messages? Can you be more specific? I've no idea what that means.

Hi

If a user puts an emoticon in their message to another user in Community Manager they get an error and the message is not sent

For example, the message below:

testing emoticons

😋

test

Causes the message system to crash with an error:

If difficulties persist, please contact the website administrator and report the error below.

1366 Incorrect string value: '\xF0\x9F\x98\x8B" ...' for column 'message' at row 1

I thought at first it was user error, but I have now tested it myself and I get the same error.

Regards
David

That's a problem with your database and not CB (confirmed emoji are working fine). Your database collation is wrong and not supporting unicode characters. Ensure your entire database, the tables in it, and the columns in those tables is set to utf8mb4_unicode_ci. phpmyadmin provides a tool for mass-applying this change under the Operations tab (scroll to Collation at the bottom and check both checkboxes then press Go), but please make a full database backup before you do this.
