Any progress and this issue? I just discovered I have the same problem. Banned profiles can still be viewd by other members.

I also have the same problem in my site. Any news?

In my case what happens is the folllowing :

_ user banned receives an email
_ he still has the right to connect to joomla !!!. This is the most disturbing for me ...
_ when logged on he can see everybody

_ when another user logs on the banned profile is hided from list of users (except for special users (admin ...))

Is there a way to block a user directly from frontend or do you necessary have to connect to backend -> CB user profile.

If you "ban" someone through the CB frontend, you are only banning their profile from benig seen by other members.

If you want to keep them from accessing the site completely you need to change the "block user" option to "yes" by editing their profile info in the joomla backend admin.

You can also ban their IP (if you know it) through your website's control panel.
