I would guess that it's not going to do anything to help if they're already getting through. Some pay humans to get through, and either this or the fact that your background and text colors are too contrasting probably causes the spammers to beat it. Nothing is going to be foolproof, but the formatting of the captcha can help if they're non-human bots.

Also if you have another language than english you can try using special characters in your fonts. It worked for me.

I too get a lot of subscribers which are really not wanted on my site. I use Agora forum and some of the users make it through to post some stuff in Agora.

A lot of users do not confirm their email address, so they are just sitting there!

I assume that there must be some real people doing something at some stage.

I am using the very latest plugins and have adjusted the settings in Captcha to be different than standard.

Yes, here too the signups have the same first-, last- and username.

The problem with that is there is no sound file for the characters.
