This unfortunately is where support must end. We can not provide support once core edits have been made. Your installation is compromised. Please note template changes or language file changes do not count as core edits.due to the extensive customization done to core files of Community builder and the attached modifications.
comprofiler.php and comprofiler.html.php contain a lot of the data responsible for forgot login feature.All I would really like to know is where the functionality for the lost password and lost username is programmed so that I can debug it myself. I understand tha because we have changed things that full support is not an option. That's why we just want a location

comprofiler.html.php is the section I was looking for.
Just a quick followup for anyone else having this issue in the future.
comprofiler.php was calling login() but did not pass a calue with $option so within comprofiler.html.php I set $option to com_porfiler in the function:
Because no option was passed to the login, nothing was sent to the loginformfunction which caused an error after submitting because it could not find the component for NULL
The quick fix for anyone with this problem is to add
above this line in comprofiler.html.php
