Will create a fresh Joomla 4 install and see if I can replicate the issue there as well as see if I can get JCE working.
I'm experiencing no such issue in my tests, but will see if it is present on the fresh install.1 - the every other time issue with the JCE Editor is happening with the TINCYMCE Editor also. So each time I save it, the next time I try to edit, the editing window comes up with just the code - no editing options.

Ok, had much better success on a clean install of just CB, CB Core Fields Ajax, and JCE. Was able to clear the editor state properly so it will reload on re-edit. Am working on a fix and should have a build available today.

It works - but . . .
and this is a big but - it doesn't save changes after the first time the content is saved.
It was exciting and worked the first time I saved, then reopened the field, But then I made another change and tried to save it - and it did not save.
And won't save again, no matter how many times or ways I try.
It will save again, if I reload the page or refresh cache.
But - and this is new too - it won't save any editor text are field after the first one is saved.
One step forward, two steps back.

Please see my last comments about not working properly.
Just wanted to let you know I just loaded the backup I took prior to updating the core ajax field and can verify there are not any issues with saving, as was happening after loading your updated file. It is just back to showing code every other time.
