Yes, I'm well aware of that notification setting, and my users know all about it also. I'm also aware of the Activity feed and I don't use the GJ Wall. That's not my issue.
I have all the user "Create of new activity post" on, again, that isn't my issue.
Let me see if I can describe it.
1. If I don't have CB Activity > Parameters > Notifications switched on then the nothing gets logged. There's an activity post, but there is no notification, even if I have all these other GJ settings on.
2. If I switch on the new CB Activity > Parameters > Notifications > Email then it sends an email to everyone in the database, not just to those in the GJ group.

What I'm needing is a very user specific email notification system for GJ that:
1. sends post emails (with the content) to all GJ group members only.
2. sends like emails to whomever made the post.
3. sends comment and reply emails to whomever is in the conversation inside a GJ Group.
4. same with GJ events and Gallery.

Right now it's a shotgun approach which sends emails sometimes to everyone, sometimes to the GJ group members, sometimes to no one or a few. Obviously if they have "Create of new activity post" switched on.
With the notification system it seems to work fine in updating the blue internal notification icons in the profile page (the mail and globe icons), they are very user specific and GJ specific. I thought it may be a simple thing to just send that our as an email, but it's proving very unpredictable.

I think I'll keep what I have for now, it seems like something's in the works that make make emails more specific.

The "Create of new activity post" notification will not log a CB Activity notification. It will send the notification the same as all the other GJ notifications. By default that'll just be an Email. That's configured in GJ itself. If you want that to also log a CB Activity notification then in CB Activity > Parameters > Notifications > Notify > CB GroupJive set "Notifications" to "Enabled" to send a GJ notification and log a CB Activity notification or set to "Replace" to only log a CB Activity notification.

2. If I switch on the new CB Activity > Parameters > Notifications > Email then it sends an email to everyone in the database, not just to those in the GJ group.

It sends an email to everyone who is a recipient of a notification. It can't be toggled on/off for specific notifications. This isn't a daily/weekly/monthly digest feature, which is planned for a future release. This just sends an email when a user receives an on-site notification.

1. sends post emails (with the content) to all GJ group members only.

That's the entire purpose of "Create of new activity post" notification. That's what it does by default.

2. sends like emails to whomever made the post.

Post like notifications are configured in CB Activity > Parameters > Notifications > Notify > Activity by toggling on "Like". For it to send an email you must also toggle that on under CB Activity > Parameters > Notifications > Email.

3. sends comment and reply emails to whomever is in the conversation inside a GJ Group.

You can only notify the post owner or the person being replied to. There is no "notify everyone who participated in the comment stream" notification. To notify the post owner toggle on CB Activity > Parameters > Notifications > Notify > Activity > "Comment". To notify the comment owner on reply toggle on CB Activity > Parameters > Notifications > Notify > Comments > "Reply".

4. same with GJ events and Gallery.

Both of those are GJ notifications same as "Create of new activity post". They already send emails unless you've configured GJs notifications not to in CB GroupJive > Parameters > Notifications. If you want both of those to also log CB Activity notifications then again you need to adjust the "Notifications" parameter in Parameters > Notifications > Notify > CB GroupJive.

I'll see about adding support for an Include Assets and Exclude Assets feature to the email notifications. Then you'd be able to set Include Assets to "groupjive.group.%" and it'd only send emails for GJ notifications specifically.

Ok, the feature to filter notification emails is now available in the latest CB Activity build release. Within CB Activity > Parameters > Notifications > Email you'll see a new "Assets" parameter. This will let you specify what assets should send an email notification specifically. This supports wildcards as well. So if you only want GJ notifications to send emails you'd set this new parameter to: groupjive.group.%

At this time this is the best I can do. Ideally you'd send a daily or weekly digest (e.g. you've 3 unread notifications), but I don't have that implemented as of yet.

"The "Create of new activity post" notification will not log a CB Activity notification." - Yes, I'm aware of that.
"That's configured in GJ itself. If you want that to also log a CB Activity notification then in CB Activity > Parameters > Notifications > Notify > CB GroupJive set "Notifications" to "Enabled" to send a GJ notification and log a CB Activity notification or set to "Replace" to only log a CB Activity notification." - OK, that makes sense, thanks!
"This just sends an email when a user receives an on-site notification." - Yea that's what I'm wanting. Let me test a bit more.
"That's the entire purpose of "Create of new activity post" notification. That's what it does by default." - Great!
"There is no "notify everyone who participated in the comment stream" notification." - OK, good to know!
"GJ events and Gallery. Both of those are GJ notifications same as "Create of new activity post"" - OK, good to know!
"Ok, the feature to filter notification emails is now available in the latest CB Activity build release. Within CB Activity > Parameters > Notifications > Email you'll see a new "Assets" parameter." - Great, thanks!
"Ideally you'd send a daily or weekly digest (e.g. you've 3 unread notifications)," - That's not a feature I need personally, but I can see the benefit not to overload emails and push.

Thanks! Appreciate all you do! I will test and follow up.

Three issues I see:
1. the filter groupjive.group.% doesn't send to only the GJ members, but to everyone in the db.
2. If it's a longer post it truncates it in the email after about 40 characters.
3. If it's a comment or reply it doesn't include the comment or reply in the email, but it does reference the original post. This one is minor.

But it's great to have just a bit of the post included in the mail!

Thanks!

1. the filter groupjive.group.% doesn't send to only the GJ members, but to everyone in the db.

It's just filtering on asset. So if the notification has a groupjive asset then it'll email it.

Please keep in mind not every notification is designed specifically for GJ. Sending a generic activity notification to everyone you're connected to is going to do exactly that send to everyone you're connected to. Every notification in CB Activity > Parameters > Notifications > Notify is generic. Meaning they don't apply to only GJ. The only notifications that apply only to GJ are those in the CB GroupJive section and those within GJ itself (in a groups notification page).

If you're seeing a non-GJ asset still sending an email please provide what asset it has in CB Activity > Notifications.

2. If it's a longer post it truncates it in the email after about 40 characters.

That's normal. It's truncated to 50 characters intentionally. The point is to get people to your website.

3. If it's a comment or reply it doesn't include the comment or reply in the email, but it does reference the original post. This one is minor.

It should display exactly as you see it in your notifications page within CB Activity. So depending on the notification it may or may not include the full post message. Activity post comment notifications for example basically exclusively reference the post they're on.
