Expired Membership ; Members still active

Hi Kyle,   So this is what I discovered:

Exclusive plan: Yes
Allow registration: Yes
 Propose plan for upgrades only if it is more expensive: YES  <<<  I set this to yes since this plan should be available for free members and is obviously more expensive than Free
Propose spontaneously plan for upgrades: Yes
Visible for Group (and above this group): Public

CBSubs > Plans > Paid Plan #2 (Family)
Exclusive plan: Yes
Allow registration: Yes
 Propose plan for upgrades only if it is more expensive: YES  <<<  I set this to yes as well, as the member in Paid Plan#1 above can elect to upgrade to this plan as it is more expensive than Paid Plan#1
Propose spontaneously plan for upgrades: Yes
Visible for Group (and above this group): Public

For the FREE PLAN

CBSubs > Plans > Free Plan
Exclusive plan: Yes
Allow registration: Yes

First static condition: This condition must be NOT be met to allow upgrades:
Any of the following plans subscriptions: Paid Plan # 1 & Paid Plan
Must be in state: Active


REACTIVATION / UPGRADE  / DOWNGRADE OPTIONS
With this configuration, it does look like some members who have expired are still offered the option to REACTIVATE their expired membership or select the free plan (effectively downgrading) - From what I can see at expiration, they have been moved out of the paid plan usergroup to just the Registered group AND also no subscription.

I am okay with this workflow.  The member can opt to reactivate the expired PAID PLAN, upgrade to the more expensive FAMILY PLAN or downgrade to the FREE one.   (The only drawback is they are disabled which means the AcyMailing add-on prevents them from getting emails as it looks for that user status.)

I think this scenario will only happen if the expired member is not in a subscription, correct? What should I make sure I have in the configuration so this happens again next time the membership expires?  (I think this was already happening before I made more changes, but I just don't remember how I did it).  lol.

Alternatively, if I want to make sure at expiration that users DO end up in at least the free plan I presume there won't be a reactivation option), remind me what configuration I need to look at?

About the user group setting.   To confirm, since all the plans are exclusive, does it mean that when members move from one plan to another, the "Subscribers User access level settings - User Group" setting moves the member out of one usergroup to another automatically?  Or would they end up in both?

Correct.

They're being disabled due to "Allow Free Registered Users (without subscriptions)" being set to "No" in CBSubs > Settings > Global.

Ideally you need that at "No" since you explicitly want people to have a free subscription and not just no subscription. You can set it back to "Yes" to stop the account disabling, but then people can just opt to not renew and not downgrade resulting in no subscription at all.

I would suggest using CBSubs Mailer to send your emails or configure AcyMailing to ignore account status if you're using it for renewal reminders.

The "Allow Free Registered Users (without subscriptions)" setting being set to "No" already enforces that. They either have to pick a plan or their account remains deactivated. So they can't use the site at all without a subscription of some kind (free or paid).

Yes it will move them from one usergroup to another. So if Free gives "Usergroup A" and Paid gives "Usergroup B" and they upgrade from Free to Paid it will remove "Usergroup A" and give them "Usergroup B" automatically.

Fantastic.  Turns out the only missing piece of the puzzle in the end was enabling the "Downgrade" option.    Kyle, thank you very much for the guidance and awesome extension!    

My next big task is wrapping my head around the newly launched CB Gallery!

I have one other consideration which I think requires an Auto Action.   

It has to do with the paid members whose plan expired, and they end up in a "no subscription" status.   From what I can tell, those expired members are automatically pulled out of the "paid member usergroup" and just end up in the default "Registered usergroup". (CB's usual behaviour).

What I'd like to do is move them into the usergroup that I set up for the free subscription plan, even if they are in a "no subscription "status.    So if they renew to a paid plan, CB will move them back to the paid usergroup, and if they opt to not renew but choose the free plan, they are already in the correct usergroup, since all my access settings are either the free or paid usergroups.   

So, I think I may just need help with how to set up an Auto Action that, upon plan expiration, the user is moved to the free usergroup instead of the "Registered" usergroup.  I hope this makes sense, or perhaps there is a better way.

I don't recommend doing that nor can I see a reason to do so. When they expire their account will be blocked on login until they renew or upgrade into free, which will then grant them that usergroup. Can you provide a reason for needing to do this? It is possible with CB Auto Actions, but is likely an unnecessary implementation.

Thanks, Kyle.  I think I'll take your advice and leave well enough alone.   I don't want to mess with what you suggested earlier, plus it's one less configuration to worry about.     I appreciate all the advice!
