How do you turn off Captcha but leave everything else turned on?

Leave legacy settings off (default off) and disable the Captcha field in CB > Field Management.

What's the difference between "block user" and "ban profile"?

Blocking a user blocks their IP Address, Email Address, Email Domain, or entire Account (using User ID). This prevents further registration and login from whatever was blocked. So you could block a users IP Address for 1 hour for example. Also the Blocking feature used on frontend has an option to also Ban their profile and/or Block their Joomla account as well (blocking Joomla account can only be reversed from backend and hides their profile).

I take it there is a method to unblock in the backend? Say for example if an admin hits block user. You say it blocks the email domain which could be bad if it's commonly used email domains (gmail, yahoo, hotmail). Is there a delete profile feature? I think this would be handy for dealing with spammers.

If you don't block the Joomla account you can add and remove blocks directly from frontend using the Block tab, but yes you can easily unblock from backend as well. No, there is not a delete profile feature but CB Privacy does provide delete profile fields so the user can delete themselves. Deleting of users had too much risk of accident prone so I did not implement it.

I see your point of view, but it would be nice to remove spammers. ;) I suppose I could just have a once a month clean up party in the backend. :P
