Thanks to the various post on creating Biography field. I was able to create one but there is a slight problem. the joomla template that I am using is a three column lay out. with the form being displayed in the center column I was wondering how to set the text editors width to a maximum 500 pixels. Can you help. I am a total novice.

The text editor width is dependent on your editors parameters. For example if using TinyMCE then see the plugin Editor - TinyMCE at Joomla Backend > Extensions > Plugin Manager followed by Advanced Parameters where you can then adjust HTML Height and HTML Width. You can also edit your textarea editor field within Field Management and adjust Cols: as well as Rows:.

Thanks Kirelon I tried text area editor within field management. It strangley has 2 editors in a row hence I assumed the first one must be for coding. there in I gave the following code using the html button.
[code:1]<ht> height =600px </ht>
<wt> width = 400px </ Width>[/code:1]
but the problem presists.I may be wrong in coding since I am a Complete novice at html. could you advice further

Regardless of the specified width it is still limited by the row of buttons seen in the editor. If the row of buttons as touching the left and right edge then the editor is as shrunken down as much as it can go; an editor which allows movement of buttons and removal of buttons is JCE (recommended as much more powerful).

It's not possible to specify the folder of which image field images are stored; I'd recommend a image gallery extension if you are needing such a feature.
