1 How to unlock it to get to unpublish and uninstall it?
2 Where is the link to new Auto Welcome version 1.2? As a FREE member do I get to download it such update?

The free version only works on Joomla 1.0.
For upgrade you need to become an Advanced member.
You should be able to checkin from Joomla checkin menu and then remove this.

Joomla Checkin Menu:
Joomla 1.5: Tools -> Global Check-in
Joomla 1.7: Site -> Maintenance -> Global Check-in
