[SOLVED] Migrating With CBJuice

[SOLVED] Migrating With CBJuice was created by aussiemike
Hi
I need a little advice. I posted this to another forum but got no answer so I decided to do it here to see if I get a response.

I ran the generic migration script and created the new 1.5.22 site. It all went well with core user data being migrated. I installed CB on the new site and then synchronised the users. Of course all the CB user data is not in place.

My question is if I use CBJuice to move all the CB user data to the new site will it duplicate the members already there? Should I remove all users from the site as well?

If I created a new install of J1.5 with no users and then used CBJuice to import all the CB user data would this also populate the core Joomla users?

The reason I ask this is that I constantly have new members joining the old site so by the time I do a migration to a new site there are new users registered on the current site who will not be in the new site. I know I can take the old site offline while doing the migration but I would prefer not to and if it was possible to use CBJuice to populate core users I would not need to.

Any advice appreciated.

If the site has existing users with same username, etc.. believe it would simply skip over them as the registration API would fail given two users can't have the same username, email, or userid.

If I created a new install of J1.5 with no users and then used CBJuice to import all the CB user data would this also populate the core Joomla users?

Yes, CB Juice is designed for easy import/export of your users to assist in migrations or mass user creation.

The reason I ask this is that I constantly have new members joining the old site so by the time I do a migration to a new site there are new users registered on the current site who will not be in the new site. Believe your migration should wait to the absolute last minute approx. 1-3 hours before you release the new site. At that point you'd shut down your old site, migrate users, and bring your new site online. This is best I can recommend otherwise you'll have to keep export/importing to keep the user base up to date.

Thank you very much for your reply. I believe that you have answered my questions and this can be marked as solved. If only I knew how to do that
