Upgrade mess- file ownership

Upgrade mess- file ownership was created by kenlyle
I installed JosCommunity 1.02, and intended to upgrade CB to 1.0 stable.

In the Readme, there was some stuff about if you FTPd the files you may have to have your host change the ownership, etc. Well, I hadn't, so I figured that didn't apply.

So I uninstalled the RC2 com_profiler, and tried to install the new one, and got: Another component is already using directory: "/home/..../public_html/components/com_comprofiler/"

I don't have a backup of the whole site. Shoulda known better...

What's the best way to untangle this?
JosCommunity still looks like a nice bundle, instead of having to find and install all the CMTs separately, no?
If I have to contact my hosting company about changing permissions and/or ownership, exactly what do I need to ask for?

Thanks,
Ken

I had to delete the com_profiler directories from components and administrator/components and reinstall.

JoomlaXplorer wouldn't work, but CPanel did.

I think that I still have the permissions issues, though, and don't know what to ask my host to do, because I am getting errors "Error occurred during the moving of the uploaded file." when trying to upload images to my profile.

Any tips appreciated.

K
