I had the same problem. What joomla/mambo are you using. Because my old mambo just had german language files. Not germani or germanf. So I renamed the germani files into german.
But the best solution is to update your joomla/mambo.
I hope this will fix your problem.

had the same problem with joomla_1.0.7_german and found no information (there is either any doc or readme to find how to install and activate the language filed -> hard for newbies).
after hours of searching without finding any, I did it this way:
- extract germani.zip (or germanf.zip)
- open germani.xml with a texteditor
- replace any "germanf" with "german"
- rename germani.xml to german.xml
- rename germani.php to german.php
- rename the folder from germani to german
- make a zip file out of it, called german.zip

Install in CB:
In Joomla Backend go to components, community builder, plugin management. then upload the german.zip file.
reload the administrator-panel. in joomla administration you should be sure to have activated no other language (although english is selected in the language-panel, the language is german).
I think this only works with the german joomla-installation, not with separate installed language plugins.

hope it will help somebody...

Hello i use joomla 1.0.8 with the CB RC2. I have tryed to use the germani.zip but it does not work. After this i have tryed to create a "new" zip file with edited xml file and renamings of all files and entries to german instead of germani.

After this i had moved the plugin at position1 and Default_language to pos 2.

Now are some words translated, but not all. E.g. the Edit-Section for User-Profiles (index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=userDetails) is not translated. And in the registration mask all descriptions of the icons are even untranslated.

Knows anyone a solution or a link to a related manual?

Thank you very much
Christian
