This issue is now fixed in Community Builder 1.2 RC 2.
Community Builder 1.2 RC 2 is a recommended upgrade.

Confirmed this first bug of CB 1.2 RC, that we could reproduce on test-system:

There is a bug in Mysqli support (default Mysql is fine).

Symptoms:

- CB installer fails
- Access to CB frontend (including CB login module) and backend fails

PHP Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /raid/www/domain/administrator/components/com_comprofiler/library/cb/cb.database.php on line 836

PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 240 seconds exceeded in /raid/www/domain/administrator/components/com_comprofiler/library/cb/cb.database.php on line 834,

PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 35 bytes) in /raid/www/domain/administrator/components/com_comprofiler/library/cb/cb.database.php on line 838

Workaround:

is for now is to switch back to joomla-default mysql:
  • in Joomla 1.0/mambo: it's the default database.php file, so this bug appears only if you renamed dabatase.mysqli.php into database.php): Joomla 1.0.15 package comes with database.php (mysql lib) and database.mysqli.php (mysqli lib). If you're using mysqli lib and have renamed database.mysqli.php to database.php to use it, just restore original database.php from joomla 1.0.15 package (that is in include directory of joomla).
  • In Joomla 1.5 it's a setting in Site global configuration.
This fixes problem encountered in infinite loop in CB database layer when using mysqli instead of joomla's default mysql database.php layer.

There are no counter-indication to switch back to mysql interface, both are equivalent from joomla and CB side.

Sorry about that unnoticed bug.

EDIT: added detailed explanation for joomla 1.0 and notice that it's not dangerous.
