CB Captcha is not showing images in CB 1.2.1

HTTP code 200 is a success response. So it should be working fine. This doesn't quite make any sense. Any mod_security warnings? Could you try asking your host to examine their logs to see if any security error from your site was logged?

this is what I got back from my Host:

When you right click on where the image should be and choose View Image (in Firefox) you will see it take you to a URL of

site.com/components/com_comprofiler/plugin/user/plug_cbcaptcha/captchaindex.php?urlmode=image&captchasid=QnpfyaxWJB5joM9UrVmaFZkVrZFjbnHv

And it displays a database connection error, indicating the comprofiler component is also not configured properly.

error:[code:1]Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'username'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /home/username/public_html/site.com/administrator/components/com_comprofiler/library/cb/cb.session.php on line 207
Session connect error![/code:1]

This appears host related, CB is unable to connect to your database and grab the appropriate session. Are your Joomla config settings properly set with the appropriate database access params such as username, password, etc...?

Of course. the site has been running 100% perfect for months and continues to do so. It's this one issue I'm dealing with and this one plugin. I'm using HostGator - the #1 rated Joomla Host.

Open basedir: None
Display Errors: On

Output Buffering: Off
Session Save Path: /tmp
Session Auto Start: 0
XML Enabled: Yes
Zlib Enabled: Yes
Disabled Functions: dl
Mbstring Enabled: Yes
Iconv Available: Yes
WYSIWYG Editor: Editor - No Editor

Was your joomla configuration file encrypted, protected, or moved?

ahh, that might be it - I have my administrator folder under password at the level of my host - one extra step of security. If that's the problem, is there a work around? I can remove that security if needed.

**edit**
didn't help, unfortunately
